Five on Friday: good to be back!

Hello lovelies!

Long time ago, again... I am so sorry for my long absence every time but I am 

so distracted by other things, and there is Instagram as well.

It's so much quicker and easier to drop a photo and a line a day by just using your phone.

Makes me a bit lazy I guess....

Anyway, as you can see, I switched to English again because that translate button makes

a mess of translating and all you get is some rubbish pile of words!

Well, even more than my own effort to do so :-).

Of course lots of things happened in the meantime and I will pick a few random things that 

I like to share with you.

Number one has to be our new addition to the cat family!

Her name is Wiske and we got her from an animal rescue centre.

She and her mum and siblings were discovered on a farm and taken to the animal shelter.

Wiske was in a foster home for a while to get her used to people and their behaviour and now she 

is a very lovely little girl to have around.

I have to say we couldn't have done it without Catoo!

She is so sweet with Wiske and learnt her everything she can and cannot do in this household.

Pippi on the other hand is really bossy and still goes her own way.

But that's perfectly allright, she never really liked other cats anyway, 

she just tolerates them.

On number two some crochet, potholders to be precise.

I really liked making them and they are already in good use in the kitchen!

If you like to make them too, here is where you can find the pattern.

I think this one is only in Dutch, but there are numerous patterns like this available

for free on the internet, also in English.

Number three is some more crochet, a scarf this time!

It's that time of year again to wrap up in something warm...

It has to be a lot colder first before I wear this one though.

It's made from merino wool; 

I dyed it myself, then carded it, spun it, twined it and finally

I could crochet this scarf, phew! 

I loved the whole process, it's really fun to do it all.

Because I didn't quite knew how much wool I had in the end I just made this pattern

up as I went; fortunately I really like the result!

Number four I'd like to show you is something I felted and embroidered.

It's also for sale, by the way ;-).

And as the last subject I choose some garden(related) pictures.

We are still so lucky with the weather!

This week I saw....

... na een aantal druilerige dagen,

dan eindelijk het zonnetje weer op vrijdag!

En ging ik van blijdschap op een stoel staan om deze foto te maken.

... after some very dreary days,

the sun shine on Friday!

And found myself standing on a chair to make this picture.

Ik vond hyacinten eerst nooit zo lekker ruiken maar de 

laatste jaren ben ik ze toch gaan waarderen.

En nu, steeds als ik de keuken in kom ruik ik zo'n lekker vleugje lente!

I didn't like the smell of hyacinths very much until some years ago,

but I really appreciate them now.

And now, everytime I enter the kitchen I smell a bit of yummie spring!

Deze week haakte ik ook deze col af; 

helaas zou ik haast zeggen want het was een heerlijk werkje.

Maar ik heb uiteraard nog meer te haken hoor, ben ook nog

steeds bezig met de deken voor vrienden. Pffff, stel je toch voor dat je niks

te knutselen hebt, ik moet er niet aan denken!

This week I also finished this cowl;

I would almost say 'unfortunately' because it was a delight to work on.

But of course I have more crochet work lying around,

I am also still working on the blanket for our friends.

Imagine you have nothing crafty to do,the thought itself makes me nervous!

Oh ja, en ik was helemaal in de wolken omdat ik na een lange

zoektocht eindelijk dit boek vond op marktplaats en ook nog voor een redelijke prijs!

Het is helemaal overal in de wereld uitverkocht en ik zag het al een keer 

op marktplaats maar toen werden er zulke achterlijk hoge biedingen gedaan

en daar wou ik niet aan meedoen.

And I was totally happy because after a long search I found

this much wanted book for a reasonably price!

It is sold out everywhere in the world and I did see it on Marktplaats once 

(kind of eBay) but there were already such high bids that I didn't want to join.

En net toen ik na ongeveer een jaar dacht,

 nou ja helaas dan moet ik het maar zonder dit pareltje doen in het leven,

zag ik het weer voorbij komen en was ik de eerste die een mail stuurde naar de 

aardige verkoopster en was de deal zo gesloten, whoehoe!!

En het is zelfs nog fijner dan ik dacht,

ik zit er steeds in te lezen en me te vergapen aan de mooie plaatjes en 

leuke ideeën. Ze had ook een super blog waar ze helaas mee gestopt is,

maar een boek om in te bladeren mensen is toch het summum wat mij betreft.

And just after about a year when I thought,

oh well I will have to do without this beauty in my life,

I saw it again on Marktplaats and was the first to write an e-mail to 

the friendly seller and we had a deal, whoohoo!!

And it's even nicer than I already thought,

i am constantly drooling over the pretty pictures and nice ideas.

She also had a super nice blog which she unfortunately quit,

but a book to browse through dear people is still the best I think.

En toen had ik ineens weer zoveel inspiratie dat ik spontaan

een opruim/weggooi/verbouw- bui kreeg.

De hele bovenverdieping moet er nog aan geloven maar ik ben maar eens

gestart met het uitmesten van mijn knutsel hok.

Ik sjouwde een kast van de zolder voor meer opbergruimte en tot nu toe

heb ik drie volle vuilniszakken voor de kliko en een overloop vol

met kringloopspul, dus ja het was ook hard nodig!

Hierboven een paar dingetjes die mochten blijven.

And then I had so much inspiration that I spontaneously

got a declutter/trow-away/redesign- moment.

The first floor has to be done totally but I thought I better start with my 

crafty little room.

I managed to get a big shelfing unit down from the attic so I have more

space to stuff my stuff.

And so far I have three full garbage bags for the bin

 and a landing full of things

for the charity shop, so yes it was quite a necessity actually!

In the pictures some of the bits that were to stay at my room.

Dus nu is het boven een grote chaos...

Maar ja, het wordt altijd eerst erger voor het beter wordt hè,

en in gedachten zie ik al helemaal voor me hoe het gaat worden.

Nu ben ik voorlopig nog wel bezig om het ook echt zo te krijgen !

Man en zoon schuifelen gewoon tussen alle rommel door,

die zijn wel wat gewend. 

Ik waarschuw voor de zekerheid ook altijd maar even van te voren hahaha,

dan schrikken ze iets minder .

So now upstairs is complete chaos...

But you know, first it has to get worse before it will be better,

and in my imagination I see it all beautifully finished.

So now I just have to keep busy to get it in that state!

Husband and son just bravely endure such actions,

they are quite used to it now.

But to don't scare them to much I alway give a warning in advance, hahaha.

Kijk, kijk, ik ging ook nog wandelen met rotweer,

het is ook alles of niks bij mij!

Ik geloof dat het deze week alles was :-).

Heel fijn weekend lieve mensen!

And look, I also went for a walk in nasty weather,

it's all or nothing with me.

I guess this week it was all :-).

Craft versus computer

Ik vind het zo'n groot verschil:

het werken met je handen, voelen en ruiken van de wol en dan je

gedachten laten gaan en creatief bezig zijn,

en dan aan de andere kant de computer die ik het grootste gedeelte van de tijd

niet snap omdat mijn logica blijkbaar anders is dan de zijne (ja, ik denk dat de 

computer toch een mannelijke ding is op de een of andere manier... ;-)).

I think it's such a big difference:

working with your hands, feeling and sniffing the wool and just be creative

and let your thoughts drift a bit,

and then there's the computer which I don't understand lots of times because 

his sense of logic is so different to mine 

(yes, I guess the computer is a male thing somehow... ;-)).

En toch is het gewoon een handig ding.

Ik zou mijn blogje niet meer willen missen want het is juist zo 

leuk om die op- dan- wel- afwijking te delen met lotgenoten/ andere creatievelingen!

But it's such a handy thing.

I can't miss my little blog anymore because it's so much fun

to share all the wooly stuff  with other creatives!

En nu ben ik zelfs overstag gegaan voor Facebook...

Ik was eigenlijk anti, omdat ik er een beeld bij had dat je er dan verplicht

van alles 'mee moest' en dan hoeft het van mij al niet meer!

Ik ben net pas gestart en tot nu toe valt het mee.

Is het stiekem eigenlijk best leuk om allemaal bekenden tegen te 

komen.

En blijken er juist ook heel veel gelijkgestemden 

daar rond te wandelen!

And now I am on Facebook...

I didn't think it was something for me at all,

because in my mind you 'had to' react and do stuff all the time and then it

feels like a big NO for me.

I just started and actually it's not that bad.

I have to admit it's quite fun to see all those familiar faces.

And to see there are so many like minded people out there!

Ik ga op mijn manier dan toch een beetje mee in de vaart der volkeren.

Maar het voelt wel tegenstrijdig af en toe voor iemand die soms haar

wereldje juist klein en overzichtelijk wil houden.

En gewoon de hele dag alleen maar zou willen spinnen, haken, verven,

vilten en aan heerlijke verse wol snuffelen ;-).

Het is duidelijk een luxe 'probleem', want het feit dat je überhaupt kan 

kiezen is niet voor iedereen weggelegd, daar ben ik me echt wel bewust van.

In my own way I try to keep up with the rest of the people.

But it feels contradictory  for someone who sometimes wants 

to keep her world just small and simple.

And just wants to spin, felt, crochet, dye and sniff at some lovely wool ;-).

It's obviously a luxury 'problem', even to have a choice is not for everyone unfortunately

and I am fully aware of that.

Ik ben gewoon een gevoelige muts die niet altijd zoveel indrukken aan

haar hoofd kan hebben, da's alles.

Ik raak daar soms van in de war en moet dan steeds weer even bepalen 

of ik er wat mee kan of niet...

Als jullie begrijpen wat ik bedoel ??

I am just a sensitive creature who can't always handle 

al those impressions that keep coming my way, that's all.

I get confused sometimes and have to reconsider if I want

to take part or not... 

Does that make any sense at all??

En ondertussen ga ik dan toch verder met wat ik het liefst doe.

Het is tegelijkertijd therapie, haha!

In the meantime I just carry on doing what I love most.

Recipes of all kinds

Men neme een goedkoop kringloopkrukje, wat verf (tsja, sorry, daar komt Annie

weer om de hoek...) en restanten katoendraad...

One takes a cheap charity shop stool, some paint (Sorry, here's Annie again...),

and leftover cotton thread...

.... en dan heb je er weer een vrolijk nieuw stoeltje bij!

Men neme datzelfde krukje en een kat als fotomodel....

.... en het model werkt totaal niet mee...

Het recept voor deze heerlijke kwark-havermout-zonder-suiker-bolletjes

vond ik HIER, en ze zijn een grote hit in huize Stins!

Ontzettend makkelijk om te maken en voedzaam;

ik verving alleen de krenten voor cranberries.

I found HERE, and they are a big hit in the Stins household!

Very easy to make as well...

Wat regen en veel zon is een goed recept voor een tuin met 

mooie bloemen....

Some rain and lots of sun is a good recipe for a garden 

with pretty flowers....

... en zodoende de beste plek om mijn 42ste verjaardag te vieren!

Ja hoor, hier is dan eindelijk het medicijnkastje

waar ik al zolang mee bezig was!

And yes, finally I can show you the little medicine cabinet 

that took me so long to finish!

Klinkt luguberder dan het is hoor ;-).

Sjieke naam heeft ie gekregen hè?

Sounds more scary than it really is ;-).

Posh name, isn't it, 'calamities cabinet' ?

Dat het dan niet zo opschiet met zo'n kastje komt natuurlijk ook

omdat ik met nog veel meer dingen bezig ben ondertussen.

Zoals deze doek haken voor een lief baby jongetje....

That the cabinet took some time is also because

I do lots of other things in the meantime of course.

Like making this little blanket for a sweet baby boy...

En wat aanrommelen en genieten in de tuin,

tussen de buien door.

And pottering around  and enjoying the garden 

in between the showers of rain.

Bah, deze roos is aangetast door de luizen,

maar ruikt gelukkig nog net zo zalig als anders...

This rose is covered in lice unfortunately,

but she smells delicious anyway...

We vonden dit  goedkope bankje op marktplaats!

Nog helemaal prima...

We found this second hand and very cheap garden bench!

Still in good shape...

De salade bar is ook goed gevuld...

The lettuce is doing well...
