The joy of colour!

Hello dears,

without realising it, the colours I am currently using 

to make a blanket are a bit autumnal, don't you think?

Not my usual choice but I really like them anyway; 

it's the combination of them all that does it for me.

And look, I am already choosing a colour scheme for a next 

blanket! I really want to crochet a 'log cabin blanket', but I find it difficult to choose 

the right shades that work together in one block and in the blanket as a whole....

I tried Lucy's   pattern last year, which is stunning and beautiful,

but I wanted to use different colours and there I went wrong.

She cleverly uses 18 (!) colours of yarn in one block!

So, this winter I am trying a much simpler pattern that only uses seven colours,

and hopefully that will work out.

This is the first range I came up with.

Really like it, but they are my safe and usual colours to go for...

Not so bad maybe but I have to try and see if other combinations will work for me also,

you know, getting out of one's comfort zone and such :-).

That Lucy is a great example for me you can see here too, 

I am using her peg method for choosing yarn colours because it works really well!

The second one is not spectacularly different, 

but might be very nice too, a bit less bright...

I want to use the blanket as a cover  for our bed so I have to 

take that in consideration too.

I'll have to sleep on it I think (sorry for the pun ;-)).

Talking about colours: the garden is still doing it's best to deliver too!

Look at those delightful sweetpeas, really the last ones of this year and

smelling like a delicious summer's day.

Five on Friday: good to be back!

Hello lovelies!

Long time ago, again... I am so sorry for my long absence every time but I am 

so distracted by other things, and there is Instagram as well.

It's so much quicker and easier to drop a photo and a line a day by just using your phone.

Makes me a bit lazy I guess....

Anyway, as you can see, I switched to English again because that translate button makes

a mess of translating and all you get is some rubbish pile of words!

Well, even more than my own effort to do so :-).

Of course lots of things happened in the meantime and I will pick a few random things that 

I like to share with you.

Number one has to be our new addition to the cat family!

Her name is Wiske and we got her from an animal rescue centre.

She and her mum and siblings were discovered on a farm and taken to the animal shelter.

Wiske was in a foster home for a while to get her used to people and their behaviour and now she 

is a very lovely little girl to have around.

I have to say we couldn't have done it without Catoo!

She is so sweet with Wiske and learnt her everything she can and cannot do in this household.

Pippi on the other hand is really bossy and still goes her own way.

But that's perfectly allright, she never really liked other cats anyway, 

she just tolerates them.

On number two some crochet, potholders to be precise.

I really liked making them and they are already in good use in the kitchen!

If you like to make them too, here is where you can find the pattern.

I think this one is only in Dutch, but there are numerous patterns like this available

for free on the internet, also in English.

Number three is some more crochet, a scarf this time!

It's that time of year again to wrap up in something warm...

It has to be a lot colder first before I wear this one though.

It's made from merino wool; 

I dyed it myself, then carded it, spun it, twined it and finally

I could crochet this scarf, phew! 

I loved the whole process, it's really fun to do it all.

Because I didn't quite knew how much wool I had in the end I just made this pattern

up as I went; fortunately I really like the result!

Number four I'd like to show you is something I felted and embroidered.

It's also for sale, by the way ;-).

And as the last subject I choose some garden(related) pictures.

We are still so lucky with the weather!

Dat wij gisteren enorm genoten hebben van deze boswandeling

hoef ik er denk ik niet eens bij te vermelden hè...

That we enjoyed this autumn walk yesterday so immensely I don't have

mention really, do I?

Ik hoop dat jullie ook blij worden van deze mooie herfstdagen

en lekker buiten kunnen zijn!

I hope you guys can also enjoy these beautiful autumn days 

and are able to spent them outside in the sun!

This week I saw...

... zomaar ergens op een route die ik wekelijks rijd,

 een huisje ingepakt in de allermooiste 

herfstkleuren.

... just somewhere along a route I drive every week,

a little house wrapped in the most beautiful autumn colours.

Ik word hier zo enorm blij van!

Die kleuren, dat licht, die verschoten roze deuren; 

alles aan deze plek is even fotogeniek.

Waar ik trouwens ook enorm blij van word,

zijn jullie lieve en warme reacties op mijn vorige blog bericht.

Wat doet dat toch goed om te weten dat er zoveel fijne

mensen meelezen én meeleven, bedankt daarvoor!

This makes me so very happy!

Those colours, that light, those 'sunkissed' pink doors;

everything about this place is just so photogenic.

Another thing that makes me very happy,

are your sweet and warm reactions to my previous post.

It does me so much good to know there are so many dear 

and understanding readers, thank you for that!

Our weekend

Zaterdag vierden we ventje's verjaardag, 12 jaar is ie geworden!!!

(Misschien moet ik 'm dan ook maar geen "ventje" meer noemen...)

Met de hele dag visite, taart en kadootjes was het een hele fijne dag om en jaartje

ouder te worden!

In alle taarten en drinken uitdelerij drukte ben ik helemaal vergeten om nog wat 

foto's te maken helaas...

On Saturday we celebrated little guy's birthday, he's twelve years old now!

(Maybe I shouldn't call him "little guy" anymore...)

 The whole day was  packed with guests, cake and presents, so it was a

perfect day to get a year older!

Unfortunately in all this buzz I forgot to make some pictures...

Vandaag gingen we er even uit voor een wandelingetje.

Ook echt maar "even" want de wind was me toch koud aan de oren!

Maar wel in sneltreinvaart kunnen genieten van alles om ons heen.

Today we went for a short walk.

Really short because our ears got so very cold from the wind!

But we did enjoy everything around us though.
